SACRAMENTO, Calif. (PSN) – A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle late Monday night in the Arden Arcade area, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Just before 11:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Arden Way and Heritage Lane following reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision in front of Arden Fair Mall. Emergency personnel pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle remained on site following the incident.

“Given the circumstances, detectives from our Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) and crime scene investigators will be responding to this one as well to take over the investigation,” stated the Sacramento Police Department.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the coroner’s office.

Authorities are urging any witnesses or individuals with information about the collision to come forward. "The Sacramento Police Department encourages any witnesses with information regarding this investigation to contact the dispatch center at (916) 808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357).
