SACRAMENTO, Calif. (PSN) — A Sacramento firefighter was seriously injured Monday night after being attacked by a patient during a medical aid response at a residence in the 900 block of Arcade Boulevard.
The incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m., when Sacramento Police officers were dispatched to assist fire personnel on a mental health-related call, according to Officer Allison Smith, public information officer for the Sacramento Police Department.
While medics were attempting to provide treatment, the patient, identified as 23-year-old Jamil McGhee of Sacramento, allegedly struck one of the firefighters, rendering him unconscious. The injured firefighter was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Additional reports indicate the patient had sustained visible lacerations to his arms and back after apparently jumping through a first-floor window prior to the assault. McGhee was also transported to an area hospital for treatment before being booked into jail on related charges.
Sacramento Police have not released the name of the injured firefighter. No further details were immediately available regarding the charges filed or the current condition of those involved.
