CARMICHAEL, Calif. (PSN) — An elderly woman was hospitalized Friday morning after a house fire broke out in Carmichael, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.

Firefighters were dispatched to 4424 Jasper Court, where they arrived to find heavy fire in the attic that had already spread into the home’s main living area. Crews quickly entered the structure, conducted a primary search and began suppression efforts, Metro Fire said.

The fire caused extensive damage to the home but was contained before it could spread further. The woman was transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.

Metro Fire’s arson investigation team is working to determine the cause, which remains undetermined. Crews are expected to remain on scene to conduct overhaul operations and check for hidden fire.
