SACRAMENTO, Calif. (PSN) — A late-night residential fire in south Sacramento displaced a family Monday after flames spread from a garage into the main living area of a home, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.
Fire crews responded around 11 p.m. to the 7200 block of Saga Way and arrived to find a well-involved garage fire extending into the residence. Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack and were able to contain the fire, preventing further spread throughout the structure.
According to fire officials, the homeowner was inside when the fire began and went to investigate after hearing a noise coming from the garage, which had been converted into a living space. Upon discovering the fire, he re-entered the home to assist his mother. Both occupants exited safely and called 911.
The homeowner sustained a minor injury and was treated and released at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Neighbors assisted the displaced residents following the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Metro Fire investigation team.
Fire officials reminded residents to exit immediately and call 911 from a safe location if a fire occurs in the home.
